Cannes International Games Festival 2027
Category : Events
From 26 to 28 February 2027, Cannes will host the 40th edition of the International Games Festival.
For three days, the Palais des Festivals swaps red carpets for game boards, cards, miniatures and tournaments. Thousands of visitors come to discover new releases, meet the people behind the games and, above all, sit down and play.
That is what makes the festival different. You are not simply walking around looking at what is on display. You find a table, learn the rules and start playing.
A festival built around discovery
The Cannes Games Festival brings together a huge range of gaming worlds.
Board games have a major presence, but they share the festival with role playing games, trading cards, miniatures, video games, strategy titles and areas designed for families.
The atmosphere can change completely from one part of the Palais to another.
You might discover a small independent game you have never heard of, join a table playing a familiar classic and then come across a tournament or live demonstration a few minutes later.
You do not need to be an experienced player to enjoy the festival. A big part of the experience is simply trying something you have never played before.
Meet the people behind the games
Every game starts with an idea, but getting from that first idea to a finished box can take years.
The festival gives visitors a chance to meet some of the designers, illustrators and publishers behind the games they are playing.
Some arrive in Cannes with a newly released title, while others are there to introduce a project that is still being developed.
That makes the experience more personal. Instead of simply learning how a game works, you can also hear where the idea came from, how its mechanics evolved or how its visual world was created.
Les Nuits du Off: a different side of the festival
The games do not stop when the main festival halls close.
The Nuits du Off continue into the evening with a much more informal atmosphere.
This is where you are more likely to come across prototypes, meet designers testing new ideas and spend longer around the table with games that most people have never seen before.
For anyone interested in how games are actually created, these evenings offer a very different experience from the daytime festival.
A special 40th edition
The 2027 festival will mark 40 editions of the Cannes International Games Festival.
Over the years, the world of gaming has changed enormously. Modern board games have developed in new directions, new genres have appeared and the audience has grown far beyond traditional enthusiasts.
The festival reflects that change.
Today, serious players, families, collectors, industry professionals and complete beginners can all find something that interests them under the same roof.
Three days when Cannes feels completely different
The festival also changes the atmosphere around the Palais des Festivals.
For a few days, central Cannes fills with groups comparing the games they have tried, talking about their favourite discoveries or heading home with a new box under their arm.
It feels very different from the major professional congresses that regularly take over the city.
The Games Festival is an important event for the industry, but it has managed to keep a relaxed and welcoming side that makes it easy for anyone to join in.
