MIDEM Cannes 2027

MIDEM Cannes 2027

January is a much quieter time in Cannes than the summer season. For a few days, however, the Palais des Festivals becomes busy once again.

From 19 to 21 January 2027, MIDEM returns to Cannes, bringing together many of the different people who make up today’s music industry. Artists, labels, producers, managers, entrepreneurs, investors and live music professionals will all gather in the same place to exchange ideas, present projects and discuss a sector that continues to evolve at a rapid pace.

A long-standing music event in Cannes

MIDEM has been part of Cannes’ event calendar for decades.

First launched in 1967, it became one of the major international meeting points for the record industry. Since then, the way music is produced, distributed and discovered has changed completely, and MIDEM has changed with it.

Today, the conversation goes far beyond album releases and traditional distribution. Streaming, technology, live music, new business models and the way artists build their careers now play a much bigger role.

That evolution has allowed MIDEM to remain relevant by bringing together professionals who may work in very different areas, but who are all part of the same industry.

An event built around meeting people

MIDEM does not work like a traditional music festival where visitors simply move from one stage to another.

A large part of the event is about meeting people.

For three days, the Palais becomes a place where professional appointments follow one another, projects are presented and new contacts are made, sometimes in a much more spontaneous way than at a formal conference.

For an artist, a startup or a young company, having labels, producers, investors and international professionals in the same place can lead to conversations that would be far more difficult to arrange from a distance.

That mix of different profiles is a big part of what gives MIDEM its identity.

A growing focus on innovation

The music industry is no longer shaped only by artists, labels and concert venues.

A growing number of companies are now developing tools around creation, data, artificial intelligence and the live music experience.

The MIDEM Startup Challenge 2027 reflects that shift. It gives young companies a place to present new ideas and technologies that could influence the way music is created, promoted and experienced in the years ahead.

This gives MIDEM a wider scope than a traditional trade event. It is as much about the music itself as it is about the tools and technologies changing the industry around it.

Artists remain at the heart of the event

Although much of MIDEM is aimed at industry professionals, the event is not limited to meetings and conferences.

Concerts and showcases remain an important part of the programme. They give artists a chance to perform in front of professionals while also bringing live music into the wider atmosphere of the event.

The Road to MIDEM programme follows the same idea by supporting emerging artists and giving selected acts the opportunity to perform in Cannes.

That balance is what makes the event interesting: on one side, an industry discussing its future; on the other, artists doing what the industry ultimately exists for making and performing music.

Cannes in January, away from the Film Festival crowds

MIDEM also offers a different way to experience Cannes.

In winter, the city is much calmer than it is in spring or summer. The Croisette feels more relaxed, the streets are easier to explore and the city centre has a more everyday rhythm.

The Palais des Festivals still remains at the heart of the action. Its central location makes it easy to move from a meeting to lunch in town, then return later for another session, a showcase or an evening event.

For a few days, Cannes takes on an international atmosphere again, but without the intensity of the high season.
